Vegan Onion Jam recipe
This is my go to recipe for a jam when I am traveling and need something quick

This Onion Jam is by far one of the easiest and fastest recipes to help enhance the flavour of your sandwich, burger, panini or toast.

For a sweet tooth like me, this is a recipe from the heavens.

It is great especially for people who travel extensively since you can make it fresh, control the amount of sugar and not rely on over-processed food which is usually unhealthy.

Onion Jam ingredients

  1. 3/4 medium-sized Onions
  2. 1/4 cup oil (use butter if you want the non-vegan version)
  3. Small barks of cinnamon – 2
  4. Aniseed flowers – 2
  5. Cardamom – 2
  6. 2 teaspoons sugar/jaggery/coconut sugar (as per taste)
Caramalized onions
Onions are naturally sweet. You need to cook them for a long period of time to bring out the flavours

Method

  1. Heat oil in a flat skillet/pan
  2. Throw in the spices to extract as much flavour as possible
  3. Chop onions (I like mine to be cut in long slices) and add them to the pan. Caramelize slowly on a low flame. Midway add sugar
  4. Once done take off from the heat and ensure that you do not eat the whole spices
  5. Put it in the fridge or have it warm over a slice of bread, pancake, sandwich, panini

There you go with the Onion Jam recipe. Like so many things, it can be used with sandwiches, bread, pancakes, panini, burger, etc.

I have a burger recipe here that goes really well with the onion jam.
